For Mont Tremblant Resort, sustainability goes beyond protecting our natural environment. It is also reflected in our kitchens, cafés and food outlets. Behind every meal we serve is an important consideration: how can we offer delicious food that respects our guests, our region and the planet?
Favouring Local Flavours
Because food represents a significant part of our environmental footprint, we strive to make more responsible choices at every stage of our sourcing process. This approach is built on lasting partnerships with producers, processors and suppliers who share our values.
Choosing local is about more than following a trend. It is a way to support the regional economy, reduce the distance food travels and offer our guests an authentic Québec experience. Today, 55% of the products served in our main cafeterias and at Café Johannsen come from within a 300-kilometre radius. More broadly, 74% of our products come from Québec-based businesses. The remainder comes from elsewhere in Canada.
In practical terms, this means many local products are part of our food offering:
- Agropur dairy products
- Bridor bakery products made in Québec
- Novali products designed in Québec
- Labatt beers brewed in Montréal or Québec City
- Several Canadian snacks, including MadeGood products
- Coca-Cola products bottled in Canada
By favouring shorter supply chains whenever possible, we also aim to reduce the number of intermediaries between producers and our kitchens.
More Vegetarian Options
Responsible food choices also mean diversifying our menus. Already, 43% of the dishes offered in our cafeterias and at Café Johannsen meet the needs of vegetarian or vegan guests. Several gluten-free options are also available, currently representing 17% of our offering. This evolution allows us to better meet our guests’ dietary preferences while helping reduce the carbon footprint associated with certain meals.
Des boissons plus responsables
Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are an integral part of the mountain experience, particularly during the winter season. We believe they should also be served responsibly. That is why all coffee served in our lodging units is Fairtrade certified, thanks to our partnership with Van Houtte. Our featured coffees and hot beverages also come from responsible and certified sources.
Beyond the product itself, we are also working to reduce the environmental impact associated with its consumption. For example, coffee capsules used at our properties are collected and recycled through a specialized collection partnership.
Reducing Waste and Making the Most of Resources
Our commitment to sustainable food goes beyond our choice of ingredients. Every day, our teams are encouraged to follow best practices that help reduce food loss, minimize waste at the source and promote recycling and composting where infrastructure allows. These efforts, which may be less visible to our guests, nevertheless play an important role in reducing our overall environmental footprint.
An Ongoing Journey
Building a more sustainable supply chain is a long-term effort. By working with local suppliers and continually improving our practices, we are helping create a food offering that is more responsible, more local and more aligned with the values that guide Tremblant every day.
