Whether you’re the type to count the days between rounds or someone who simply enjoys a relaxing day on the course, a few smart adjustments can make a big difference. Here are three simple tips from the Tremblant Golf Academy to help you get the most out of your game. Why not put them to the test during your next round at Le Diable or Le Géant?

With insights from Daniel Bilodeau, B.Sc., Head Teaching Professional

1. Choose Your Landing Spot Wisely

Even PGA Tour pros hit greens in regulation only about 60–70% of the time. For the rest of us, that number is even lower—which makes approach shots all the more important.

Instead of taking unnecessary risks

Let the ball roll as soon as possible rather than trying an overly ambitious lob or sand wedge on short shots. Aim for a closer landing spot so you can choose a less lofted club and make a more controlled swing. This will help you become more consistent—and make your mishits less costly.

Here’s a quick guide for a flat green (roll/carry ratio):

  • PW: 2/1
  • 9 iron: 3/1
  • 8 iron: 4/1
  • 7 iron: 5/1

2. Keep Your Edge in the Rain

A few clouds shouldn’t ruin your round. With the right mindset and some small adjustments, playing in the rain can actually be a fun and memorable challenge.

Stay positive

Golf is as much mental as it is physical. Keep your spirits high, and chances are you’ll have an advantage over someone who’s mentally checked out by the first hole.

Be prepared

Waterproof shoes, a rain jacket, rain gloves, and more than one towel to keep your hands dry will make all the difference. A little preparation can turn a damp day into a comfortable one.

Adjust your roll

On wet ground, the ball won’t roll as far. That 15–20 feet you expected might only be 5–10 feet, so plan accordingly—especially on long layouts like Le Diable.

Club up

Rain and damp air slow the ball down. Taking one more club will help you reach your target distance.

3. Focus on Your Start and Finish Positions

After a few weeks into the season, it’s normal to hit a slump. When that happens, going back to basics can help you find your rhythm again.

Start position

Stand athletically over the ball, with the shaft pointing toward the inside of your left thigh (for right-handed golfers) and at belt height. Check your alignment with a club or alignment stick on the ground.

Finish position

End your swing in balance, back foot on the toe, and hold that finish for at least two seconds. This builds stability and improves weight transfer for cleaner contact.
