A vast mountain, skiers of all levels, and ever-changing conditions… Staying safe on the slopes is essential! One of the most important tips we can offer is to pay attention to signage. Signs are there to guide you and provide crucial information about trail conditions and grooming activities. Take special care to observe closed trail signs. Trails are closed for a variety of reasons, often involving potential hazards, and ignoring these warnings can be dangerous. Remember, if a trail is closed, it’s for a good reason!
1. Dangerous Conditions
Mounds could prevent operators of snow-grooming machines and of snowmobiles from seeing you. There could be holes, crevasses, ice, and other dangerous conditions on trails under maintenance.
2. No Rescue
There are no first-aid workers to help you if you injure yourself. You could spend several hours in the cold before being rescued, and you could suffer from hypothermia.
3. Equipment at Work
Do not put yourself in danger! A If you use the trails while the snow-grooming machines and
snowmobiles are maintaining them, you are putting yourself in danger. The dim lighting reduces operators’ visibility, and they are not expecting to see people using the trails without authorization. You run the risk of being in the way of the snow-grooming machines without the operators being able to see you Colliding with a snow-grooming machine would be a serious accident!
Increased Danger! Snow-Grooming Machine Equipped with Winch and Cable
Snow-grooming machines use a winch with a cable endangering anyone using the trails. This steel cable attached to the snow-grooming machine is under high tension and can be extended to a length of 1 km. It is often invisible, as it cuts under the snow, and it can remerge suddenly while strongly whipping everything on its path. Never enter the trails after opening hours, because your life could be in danger!
4. Infraction
The alpine touring trails are closed when the lifts are not operating. This rule applies to all skiers and snowboarders on the mountain, hikers, and those in alpine touring. Using the trails outside of opening hours is prohibited. The ski area could take legal action against you.
Additionally, during mountain operating hours, please check the opening status of our designated uphill areas on the Conditions page by selecting “Alpine Touring only” filter.
